Born on September 19, 1964, in Lagos, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat comes from a family shaped by public service. His father, the late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, sat in the Lagos State House of Assembly and later served as commissioner for transportation. It was a household where the work of government wasn't distant; it was dinner-table conversation.
He trained as an engineer, not a politician: a BSc and an MSc in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ibadan, followed by a PhD in System Process Engineering from Cranfield University in the UK. Before Lagos ever asked for his services, the private sector already had them: at Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, and as Chief Information Officer at Oando Plc.
That technical grounding is still how he approaches government: fewer slogans, more systems that work.

Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge
Played a central role in delivering Nigeria's first cable-stayed bridge, transforming connectivity between Lekki and Ikoyi.
Ultra-Modern Public Infrastructure & Investing in Education
Delivered 300-seater bus stops, jetties, and helped launch construction on the Fourth Mainland Bridge. Donated an ICT Centre to his alma mater, Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo State.
Lagos Light Rail
Contributed to the early planning of the Lagos Light Rail system, laying groundwork for the mass transit Lagos still needs.
